Matcha Crinkle Cookies

Matcha cookies and tea

There's something so satisfying about a crinkle cookie — the soft, tender center, the delicate crackled top, the snowy dusting of powdered sugar. Add a little matcha to the mix and you've got a cookie that's as beautiful as it is delicious. These are perfect for spring brunches, baby showers, or even a St. Patrick's Day treat.

Ingredients

Dough:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (114g)
  • 1 cup sugar (200g)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ⅛ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour (260g)
  • 2 tbsp matcha powder

For Rolling:

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar (50g)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (50g)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the butter with the sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in the eggs until fully combined.
  4. Sift the matcha into the flour, then fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough forms.
  5. Scoop dough into 1½ tablespoon balls.
  6. Roll each ball in granulated sugar, then in powdered sugar.
  7. Bake for 11 minutes. The cookies will look underdone — that's the goal. They'll set as they cool.
